SUPPLIES THAT YOU WILL NEED TO SET UP YOUR JOURNAL:

There are a few super affordable supplies that you will need to start using bullet journals. All these supplies are under $20 all together and can be used over multiple semesters so you get a return on your investment. I have listed them down below and I have also linked some of them to Amazon for great deals.

  • A bullet journal. I like this journal because it is easy to use and easy to customize.
  • Washi tape. These are a lifesaver!
  • Pens and highlighters. You will need these multicolored pens to write and highlight different tasks.
  • Sticky notes that can be used as dividers as well for easy reference. If you want to add a sticky note and also mark the page the dividers are very helpful.
  • Stencils are for the artistic planner who wants to use symbols and standardize their journal to look the same. For example the lettering stencil can be used for titles and headings.
  • Whiteout. If you make a mistake or priorities change whiteout is great for erasing things and modifying them as well.

Below are the best bullet journal ideas that I have used and recommend to fellow students. I promise that if these don’t make the semester or school year easier to handle leave me a comment and we can work improving this list.

TRACK ESSAYS VISUALLY

Some semesters have a bigger workload than usual which makes it extremely difficult to stay on top of all the essays that are due and the progress that you’ve made over time. Term papers tend to be the worst or even dissertations that require attention and a big time commitment.

With these bullet journal ideas you can be able to spread the time commitment in a manageable way that allows you to stay on track. Additionally they help with productivity because you are able to see where more effort is needed

CREATE A STUDY SCHEDULE

One of the things that has enabled me to study well during the semester is creating a study schedule using bullet journals. This helped with tracking when assignments were due and when tests and quizzes were scheduled. Professors and teachers provide this information at the beginning of the school year so you can create a calendar of sorts and highlight due dates in your journal right at the beginning of the semester.

Have you ever found out the night before a test or homework was due and ended up sleeping in the library? This bullet journal will prevent that from happening. You can update it as the semester goes with any changes that come up.

SEMESTER TRACKER

One of the reasons a semester tracker is so appealing is because it can be customized to look however way you want it. Once you create one it is probably more visually appealing to than the standard Blackboard schedules that you find online.

Also the schedule will only includes the classes that relate to you and not an overall schedule for the whole school. It will highlight the things that matter to you such as dates and anything else that you want to track personally. Within the schedule you can add professor or teacher names and location of the classes especially if you go to one of those huge schools that have classes spread over different campuses.

GRADE TRACKER

Another way to leverage bullet journals is to use them to track your grades. You can then highlight areas that need more attention and improvement. This will then enable you to prioritize classes that may be tougher than you thought and get help before your grades suffer too much.

In this example you can see how they have a section for each class, the tests that are planned and the dates, the grade column and the goals that they have set for themselves. How cool is that?! Visual boards work in a similar way to bullet journals. In this one page you can summarize what needs to be done quickly.

Take Lecture Notes

Another great use for bullet journals is taking notes. This means that you can have the class schedule, grade tracker and lecture notes all in one place. Remember that you don’t need multiple journals to track all these stuff, you can consolidate what you need in one journal and use sticky notes or washi tape to mark different pages.

Assignment Tracker

Another great idea for bullet journals is to use them to track assignments. It can also be as simple or as complex as you want it. The main things is to have the assignment noted, due date and a checkmark for when each assignment is completed.

Weekly Bullet Journal

The weekly bullet journal is another great idea because you can combine various things that you do during the week in one page. It can be broken down by class time, study time, workout time, exam time, assignments due ALL in one place. I hope by now you see how useful a bullet journal is.

GOAL TRACKING

The last bullet journal idea is probably one of my favorites! I love goals because they give you structure and purpose. You have something that you are working towards and that’s important because it keeps you grounded.
